Brand guide
Carved to name a thing.
The mark is berkanan, the rune for B, cut from eleven flat facets. Everything else in the system comes from its one angle: 30 degrees.

01
The mark
A rune is a mark carved to name a thing. Ours is cut the way a stone carver cuts a letter: each wall of the groove slopes down to the centerline, and the light picks out the walls.
- One angle
- Every branch runs at 30 degrees. That makes each half of the rune an equilateral triangle, and the same line cuts the top and bottom of the stave.
- Eleven facets
- The outline slopes to its centerline like a V-cut groove. Light comes from the upper left, so walls facing it are lit and walls facing away are deep.
- Flat when small
- Below 32 pixels the facets go and the silhouette stays. The favicon is always flat.
- Ochre or Ink
- The rune is Ochre, or Ink in one-color work, or Paper on an Ochre field. Nothing else.
02
Lockups
Four arrangements, each in color, one-color Ink and reversed. The horizontal lockup is the default. Use the others when the space asks for them.
03
Clear space and minimum size
Clear space is x on every side, where x is a quarter of the mark's height: the depth of one branch. Nothing else goes inside it, including the edge of the page.
04
Usage
Use the files as they are. Every example below is the real lockup with one thing changed.

Color
Light only. Every color is set explicitly and there is no dark theme. Ochre is the red-brown rubbed into carved runestones; use it for the mark, links and one button, and let Paper do the rest. Contrast is the WCAG 2 ratio, measured.

- What it fixes
- A script asks the actual registries
- Describe what you are building in a sentence.
- Body. It asks the registry. If the registry has no record, it says open.
- Captions, notes and secondary text, in Stone.
- CHIPS, META AND EYEBROWS
A name on a results card: sans, 600 weight, 22 pixels or more, slight positive tracking, lowercase, the way it will be typed.

Status words
The product's vocabulary. They appear exactly as written, lowercase, always in a chip. Green is only for open, so a reader learns that green means the registry said no record.
- open
- The registry has no record, and a registrar confirmed the standard price.

- The registry has no record. Price not verified.
- premium
- No record, but priced well above standard.
- reserved
- No record, but no registrar will sell it.

Voice
The Norse register stays in the name and the mark. Everywhere else the product speaks plainly, because plain is the whole point.
- Plain. Short sentences. The words a builder would use to a friend. If a sentence needs a second read, rewrite it.
- Says what it checked. Every claim names its source. Never round a guess up to a fact.
- Dry, not cute. One light line is fine. Puns on "rune" stay out of product copy.
- No hype words. Not revolutionary, game-changing, unlock, supercharge, seamless or effortless.
- No em-dashes. Commas, colons and periods.
- Names are invented whole for each surface, and checked before they appear with a status.

Name generators style every name like a logo and call a domain available on a guess. Brandrune shows plain names and only says open when the registry has no record.

Explorations
Four directions were drawn. The carved rune won because it is the brand's own story told in geometry, and because it falls back to a plain rune silhouette at 16 pixels without redrawing.
